Delhi: Fire breaks out at two restaurants in INA market, 6 injured

A fire broke out at two adjacent fast-food restaurants in Delhi’s INA market early Monday morning. Officials reported that four to six people have been injured in the incident.
The fire broke out at Kerala Restaurant, located in shop number 211 near INA Metro Station’s gate 2, at 3:18 am. Seven fire trucks were sent to the scene and took about two hours to control the blaze, according to a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official.

The fire caused injuries to some restaurant workers who were asleep inside. The blaze also damaged two nearby Chinese fast food restaurants in shops 213 and 214.
Two injured persons, Sunil (46) and Ashki Nepali (26), were taken to AIIMS, while four others—Arun (18), Shiva (26), Shiv Kumar (24), and Girish (42)—were admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. Their injuries range from 20 to 70 per cent burns, official said.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, and the investigation is ongoing.
Manoj Mehlawat, Station Training Officer (STO) of the Delhi Fire Service, told ANI, “We received information about the fire at 3:20 am. Seven to eight fire brigades have been dispatched. Two restaurants caught fire, and four to six people are reportedly injured.

“There were more commercial cylinders stored in the restaurant than permitted, which could have led to a major tragedy,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
